First, there are three kinds of columns that influence the modern architectures a lot which are Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. And we can still see them usually in any governmental buildings. Doric column has a simple decoration, the inside is fluted( having a empty space in it), it has a sturdy structure, and the capital(the top part of a column) of the column is constructed of a circle topped by a square. There is no base for the bottom, the column sits right on the floor. Examples of the Doric column used in Ancient Rome period were the amphitheater and the aqueduct. An example of modern architecture is Justice Hall, NYC(‘’Roman Columns’’) .The Ionic column is fluted as well, however it looks thinner, and more elegant. The capital of Ionic is decorated with a scroll- like design, and the top of it has a double curved stone. Ionic column has a small base to stand on. Examples of Ionic columns in Ancient Rome period were the Arches and the Roman Theater. Example of modern architecture is Garden Statuary Stockbridge, MA.(‘’Roman Columns’’). Corinthian column has a very elaborate capital, it is usually decorated with stone leaves, there are pediment and frieze on the top of the Corinthian column which is different with the others. In addition, the Corinthian column can often be seen on Roman temples. Examples of corinthian columns in Ancient Rome period are Examples of modern architectures are the Roman Monuments and Romanbath. New York university- Hall of Fame Treeace, and Dureen's Gallery, NYC.
