Second, many famous Roman architectures are the basis for modern architectures. First example, the amphitheater. ‘’Amphi’’ means around in ancient Latin. Amphitheater was the place where people went to see fights, usually between slaves, prisoners, criminals, and wild animals. Moreover, there were usually outdoor arenas where people watched sporting events and plays. The Michigan State University Stadium is an example of architecture that imitates the scale of the Amphitheater("Architecture, Roman"). Second example, the Aqueducts. In the past, aqueducts provided water for people in the town or village. How an aqueduct works is it has a underground canals to lead the water, the closed pipes are usually use to cross valley by the ‘’inverted syphon’’ method, which the pressure forced the water to go down and up on both side to a level slightly lower than before(‘’Design of small canal structures’’). The Romans built aqueducts not only in Italy, but in Germany, France, Spain, and Turkey as well. Examples of the architectures that imitate the scale of the Roman aqueducts are Cabin John Bridge, Washington, Aqueduct, Washington DC, and the Croton Aqueduct, NYC (‘’Architecture, Roman’’) .Third example, the Basilica. In Roman times, the Basilica used to be a court or commercial center, there was no religious function. In the period of Augusta, the Basilica became a business center, and it gradually had different functions, such as meeting room and arcade. As time passed, the Basilica gradually had a function of Christian church. The interior of the Basilica was rectangular in shape. The nave was flanked on a row of columns and the middle part were the aisles, at the end of the nave, there was a semi-circular extension, usually with a half dome roof which called the apse. In addition, the special band on the window was called the Clerestory(Khan Academy) .The Basilica influenced a lot in Christianity church, a famous example of it is the S.T Mary’s Church, U.S, and it is the only correct form, because when the Basilica style was spread into the U.S, the style was copied with variances.
